Monday, November 28th, 2016:

Seven weeks into the hurricane Matthew relief efforts, GCF's team on the ground, in coordination with La Mairie des Cayes, continues to provide temporary relief to the hurricane victims in the rural communities of Les Cayes, Food and water distributions were temporarily suspended from 11/17 - 21 because of the elections in Haiti. However, last week, GCF received an additional shipment of water from Culligan, financed by Tetra Vaval. As a result, 900 additional 5-gallon water bottles and 850 cases of 20-oz water bottles are currently being distributed throughout local communities in great need of clean water. Also, upon request of the Municipal Council, we purchased a large order of food and prepared food kits, which were distributed to over 500 families. We thank YOU, Culligan and Tetra Vaval for the continued support and trust in our team.

During the week of 11/21, GCF's relief efforts impacted an additional 860 families while focusing on the following priorities:

1. Distribution
The team distributed goods to impacted neighborhood and provided relief as follows:

Date Location Goods # of Family
Nov. 22 Boulmier Water Bottles (5 Gal.) 220
Nov. 23 K-Syel Water Bottles (5 Gal.) 500
Nov. 25 Brefete Water Bottles (20 oz) 120
Nov. 25 K-Syel Food Kit 525

2. School Rehabilitation:
Completed construction work to recover Ecole Fondamentale L'union des Educateurs.

Assessing several communities to identify a couple more schools for renovation.

3. Provide access to potable water
Processed a payment to Water for Life for the construction of a potable water well in Tuffet.

Well construction will begin during the week of 11/28.

We are working closely with Les Cayes' Municipal Council to identify a project that will have a long lasting impact and will benefit the community of Les Cayes.
