RELIEF EFFORT UPDATE:
Last week was very eventful for our relief team in Les Cayes, Haiti. The Caribbean Bottling Company/Culligan donated 500 five-gallon water bottles for us to distribute in the communities most in need of assistance. THANK YOU Culligan!

We also received 25-day ration of food from Program Alimentaire Mondial (PAM). Our team spent most of the week conducting door-to-door delivery to 300 families in Tuffete and Laval, the two communities that were originally assigned to GCF. We also purchased food for 200 families in Park Larco, a public housing community in Les Cayes. To date, our relief efforts have impacted over 1,500 families. On behalf of all those we are assisting, THANK YOU!

This week will be our last week of food distribution. Over the next few weeks, we plan to focus our energy on more durable projects. To that effect, our Haiti team assessed the living conditions of the victims housed at Lycee Philippe Guerrier (LPG), a local high school turned into a temporary shelter. That assessment has left us heart broken and determined to make a difference. The living conditions there are inhumane. The school's classrooms are packed with people of all ages. We met two young mothers with their newborn babies. They went into labor at the shelter, were taken to the hospital for delivery, and sent right back to the shelter with their babies. The mothers were grateful to our team at Klinik Fonfred for the delivery of well baby packages for both babies.

During our assessment visits at LPG, we also reached out to the victims on a personal level to better understand their needs and decide on the best plan of action. We are now in the process of collaborating with five other NGOs to come up with a comprehensive plan. Each organization will be tasked with a specific activity to help re-open the school. We are hoping the facility will be ready to re-open as early as next week, but understand the complexities of moving 700 homeless victims to homes that are severely damaged or no longer exist. We will definitely keep you posted.

Last but not least, we are thankful to all of the organizations who reached out to GCF over the past week. We are compiling information based on needs and priorities along with opportunities for possible collaboration. We will share selected projects with your in the next few weeks.

To date, we've raised $86,706.09 in donations and pledges, of which we've efficiently spent about $20,000. Please continue to support this relief effort.

Sincerely,
Team GCF Matthew-Cayes Relief
