Gaskov Clerge
Gaskov Clergé was born on July 29, 1960 in Les Cayes, a coastal city located in the southern tip of Haiti. The oldest child of Brunelle and Sténio Clergé, Gaskov grew up with two brothers, one sister and two cousins.

Gaskov's educational and social development was deeply rooted in his native city, where he took the first of many steps toward a fulfilling intellectual journey. He attended les Frères du Sacré-Coeur for elementary school, Lycée Philipe Guerrier for a major part of his secondary studies, and is a graduate of Centre Culturel of Port-au-Prince.

His intellectual pursuit led him to the United States, where he attended the College of Staten Island and State University of New York at Morrisville as a freshman and sophomore. He later transferred to the University of Arkansas, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy. He then entered graduate school at Howard University to continue and deepen his interests in the sciences; in 1995, he earned a Master of Science degree in Microbiology.

On March 7, 1999, Gaskov passed to eternal rest after struggling heroically for two days fighting off a liver cancer . At the time of his death, Gaskov was a Ph.D. candidate in Food Microbiology at Howard University, while doing his doctoral research at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Washington, D.C.

Gaskov's intellectual appetite was matched by an equally tasteful zest for life, sports, family, and friendship. As a teenager, Gaskov was a star soccer player in his hometown of Les Cayes. As a testament to his multifaceted life, Gaskov's closest friends, associates and confidents included soccer players, musicians, economists, scientists, cab drivers, doctors, carpenters and high school students from various racial and cultural background. He always gave 110% to everything he did and to everyone, including his family, friends, sports and education.

Gaskov's sudden passing left many mourning hearts. He has, however, left a legacy full of fun memories for all who knew him. Moreover, his academic accomplishments and sincerity were vivid legacies of a complete, unselfish and fulfilling life. In keeping with Gaskov's legacy of love for others, exemplary sportsmanship and superior academic achievements, the Gaskov Clergé Foundation was established by his family and friends to empower individuals in the areas of sports, education, health and life sciences.
